In 2005, the estimate was 1 in every 500 dogs were diagnosed with diabeties. In 2007 it had grown to 1 in 50 dogs being diagnosed with diabetes. Our family dogs are suffering from commercial food and treats that are full of chemicals, by-products and preservatives. Their life span has been shortened by obesity, kidney and liver problems, diabetes amongst others. Published studies have shown that the by-products and preservatives used in commercial dog food and treats, does not give any nutritional value to our family dogs and in fact, may be detrimental to their health.

In 2007, we witnessed the most pet food recalls in the history of the United States due to contaminated wheat gluten from China. Wheat gluten is an alternative to soybean based meat substitutes which the pet food manufacturers use in their products. After the recall, they have not changed their use of wheat gluten. Wheat gluten holds no nutritional value in our pet foods or treats.

In 2008, we have had pet treat recalls, in addition to more pet food recalls. Go into any pet store and look at the ingredients on the packages of dog treats. What a list?
